Algal blooms or 'red tides' are frequently found in HK's waters, a situation that has much to do with unnatural amounts of nutrients entering the sea from man-made sources. Research by Prof. Jimmy Jiao and by Dr. David Baker directly relates to this important environmental phenomenon and this expertise was sought for a recent SCMP article on the affect of red tides on local fisherman.
