North China Plain (NCP) is a global hot spot of groundwater overexploitation. Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) is the purposeful recharge of water to aquifers for subsequent recovery or environmental benefit. Impact assessments of MAR implementations in NCP requires large-scale yet detailed groundwater flow modeling. The study area Baoding Plain locates in the northeast of NCP, which has good hydrogeological conditions for recharge. The distributed hydrological modelling of Baoding Plain features high resolution hydrostratigraphic model based on dense borehole data, which was simulated by transition probability geostatistical software (TPROGS). The Baoding Plain model also has improvements of a better description of boundary fluxes and better spatial distribution of water use and demand in combination with new model optimization objectives. The model was calibrated based on novel optimizations techniques and resulted in good performance comparing with observed groundwater levels.  The water balance results indicate that the groundwater storage begins to end in deficit in 2012 with storing 0.229 km3 water, due to the effect of South to North Water Transport (SNWT) project. The further result will be used for quantitative assessments of scenarios to support Chinese governments’ MAR implementation plans.
