Volcanism is one of the most fundamental geological processes on terrestrial bodies throughout the Solar System. The nature and style of volcanism can reflect the planet/moon’s tectonic characteristics, and they can also provide clues for crustal properties, surface reworking processes, geochemistry, etc. Through remote sensing methods, analysis of ancient volcanic provinces on Mars with a focus on the Arabia Terra and Xanthe Terra regions, along with exploration in a global scale are carried out. It has long been known that Mars has been widely resurfaced by effusive volcanism, but the importance of explosive volcanism on Mars has only recently been recognized. We aim to characterise a new population of calderas associated with ancient supervolcanoes and investigate their correlation with regional to global tectonic settings. In the past decades, planetology has been an exciting field of study; not only because of the interesting discoveries made by scientists, but the importance of the research. A better understanding of the geological history of our terrestrial neighbours can provide a different perspective to support future investigation of the geological history of the Earth and the Solar System.
