Abstract
The amount of stored mining waste in Europe is estimated at more than 1.0 billion tons. Storage facilities can pose environmental impact because of its potential for dam accidents and as a source of pollution. The main concept of waste management in Sweden has largely been to cover the waste or treat the contaminated water. Demand for critical raw materials and elements in Europe forces research against recovery/extraction of secondary sources like mine wastes.

Biography
