Systematic investigation of solute transport in coastal aquifers is important to obtain a better understanding of solute transport in coastal aquifers and material exchange between the marine and continent environments. This PhD study focuses on three main aspects of the solute transport in coastal aquifers using Tolo Harbour as a case study: 1) dense contaminant infiltration and transport in coastal aquifers under the effects of seasonal hydrological variations; 2) the nutrients (N and P) balance and transport in coastal aquifers under the effects of tidal and seasonal hydrological variation; and 3) the reactive transport of radioactive nuclide elements, radium and radon, in intertidal zone of the coastal aquifers. This seminar will report what has been done in these aspects and future work to be carried out in the remaining PhD study period.
