    Prof. Shuzhong Shen Academician, CAS Nanjing University

Dr. Shuzhong Shen is currently a professor at Nanjing University. He was elected an academician in Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015 and has been the leading scientist of an Outstanding Research Group continuously supported by the National Science Foundation of China for nine years. Prof. Shen’s major fields include mass extinctions and palaeoenvironmental changes based on fossil records. He has published more than 250 papers and also co-edited 15 monographs and special issues. Professor Shen’s research has won several accolades within China, notably including: Outstanding Young Scientist Award (NSFC, 2002); 2nd Prize of National Natural Science Research Award and ‘Li Siguang Geology Science Award’ by the Geological Society of China in 2015.

Prof. Shen has been the chair of the International Subcommissionon Permian
Stratigraphy and the member of International Commission on Stratigraphy since
2012 and served as the director of the State Key Laboratory of Palaeobiology and Stratigraphy in Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology of Chinese Academy of Sciences between 2006-2016. He has led a few key projects as the principal scientist including a national basic research program (973 program) supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and a major project supported by NSFC.
