The FTMS is equipped with a 7-tesla liquid helium cooled superconducting magnet for high resolution mass spectrometric study of complex ions/clusters. Aqueous samples are electro-sprayed into the mass spectrometer.
The FTMS is coupled to an optical parametric oscillator/amplifier (pumped by a pulsed Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm) with wavelength output ranges between 1.35 and 16 microns. The IR OPO/A is used to induce photodissociation of ion species trapped inside the FTMS sample cell for bonding and structural analysis.
